Wagon move
56311 should be working the wagon movement from Parkeston Quay tonight. The train will consist of several defunct TUA wagons which were formerly used by GB Railfreight for their Aberdeen to Harwich 'mud oil' trains. Update 23:00 - The wagon movement is cancelled tonight and will now be rescheduled to depart Parkeston Quay tomorrow afternoon (Thursday). 56311 worked the outward light engine move from Washwood Heath as expected.

Wednesday wagon movement
DCR will be moving some wagons from Parkeston Quay (Harwich) to Kingsbury Sidings overnight on Wednesday (30th November) / Thursday (1st December). The loco (a class 31 or 56) will run light engine as 0Z31 0930 Washwood Heath TMD - Parkeston Quay on Wednesday morning (via Burton-on-Trent, Nottingham, Grantham, Peterborough & Ely) before working back with the wagons as 6Z31 2300 Parkeston Quay to Kingsbury (booked Ely 0036, Peterborough 0120-0122, Melton Mowbray 0208, Loughborough 0231, Burton-on-Trent 0307). More news as and when it arrives.

31190 ran light engine from Washwood Heath to Wembley today, to pick up 86259 (currently owned by Vintage Trains Ltd) for attention at Washwood Heath.

Purple no more
56312 at Washwood Heath has been outshopped into the grey & yellow variation of the DCR livery, as carried by classmate 56311. The loco previously carried a purple colour scheme with yellow cabs and a green 'ARTEMIS' name adorning the body side.

56303 out and about
On Thursday 29th September, 56303 moved 33201, 45060, 37503 & 20107 from the Midland Railway Centre (Butterley) and Barrow Hill Roundhouse (Chesterfield) to the Nene Valley Railway at Wansford, for their three-day diesel gala. 31190 also tagged along from Washwood Heath to participate in the event. On Monday 3rd October, 56303 and 31190 took the locos back to Barrow Hill, but 56303 stayed at Barrow Hill for load bank testing (it remains at the depot as of today). 31190 continued to Butterley with 33201, before running solo back to Washwood Heath.

31454 participated in the Great Central Railway (North) diesel gala over the weekend of 1st & 2nd October. The loco is still at the line as of today.
D306 movement
On Wednesday (5th October), 31190 took recently repainted class 40 No D306 'Atlantic Conveyer' (which is owned by Neil Boden) from Washwood Heath to Kidderminster, as both locos were down to participate in the Severn Valley Railway's diesel gala, which kicked off this weekend.
31601 goes on hire
Due to ongoing problems with Rail Vehicle Engineering's 31459, DCR loco 31601 has been hired to DB Schenker to operate one of the Network Rail ultrasonic test trains. It is not yet known how long the loco will be deployed on such duties.

25321, which is now unavailable for the Nene Valley diesel gala this coming weekend, will be replaced by DCR loco 31190. Therefore, the convoy to the Nene Valley Railway today will be formed of 56303, 31190, 45060, 37503, 20107 & 33201.
31454 is confirmed for the Great Central (North) diesel gala this coming weekend. It will work the 0945, 1150, 1350 &1550 Ruddington to Loughborough & return on Saturday and the 0945, 1150, 1350 & 1550 Ruddington to Loughborough & return on Sunday.

31190 returns to base
31190 returned to Washwood Heath yesterday evening, after operating the heritage diagram at the Weardale Railway over the weekend.
56303 movements
56303 undertook a test run today, after completion of repairs. The loco worked the 0Z56 0830 Washwood Heath to Washwood Heath via Stafford, Crewe, Uttoxeter, Stenson, Loughborough and Nuneaton, with 31190 & 56311 in tow for good measure. 56303 will next undertake the task of moving 37503, 20107 & 45060 from Barrow Hill Roundhouse and 33201 / 25321 from Butterley (Midland Railway Centre) to the Nene Valley Railway for their forthcoming three-day diesel gala. The movement is expected to take place tomorrow or Thursday.

31190 will be out top and tailing the heritage diagram this weekend at the Weardale Railway – this is for one weekend only. It’ll be top and tailing with the steam locomotive, doing the full diagram from Stanhope to Bishop Auckland (on the BA end of the train).

BARS / DCR loco 56022 has been exchanged for preserved 31144, which is owned by the Newton Heath Diesel Traction Group . The 56 is thought to be going for scrap and will be leaving Weardale shortly. 31144 should move from Newton Heath to Weardale in due course.

It is the understanding of the author that BARS / DCR have recently acquired five mk.2 DBSO driving coaches for use on passenger services. The vehicles are believed to be 9704, 9705, 9707, 9709 & 9711, which have been in long term storage at MoD Long Marston and MoD Kineton respectively. All five were previously operated by Anglia Railways.
31601 has further been engaged in driver training / route learning runs with DB Schenker Rail this week. As per last week, the loco has been out-based at Bescot, and has visited Rugeley, Stafford, Birmingham International, Leamington Spa, Stourbridge Junction, Walsall, Nuneaton and St Albans Abbey, amongst other places.
31190 will be running light engine to Bishop Auckland (Weardale Railway) tomorrow, departing Washwood Heath TMD at 0830, running via Burton, Derby & Rotherham, then forward via York / Darlington.

31601 will be out again next week on further route learning/driver training runs, it is booked to work 0Z31 0722 Bescot Down Sidings to Bescot Down Sidings via Stafford (0824-0829), Wichnor Junction (0903-0918), Birmingham International (1017-1042), Leamington Spa (1124-1129), Stratford-upon-Avon (1206-1211), Stourbridge Junction (1312-1315), Birmingham International (1408-1424), Wichnor Junction (1549-1554), Stafford (1639-1656), Rugeley Trent Valley (1718-1727) and Walsall (1755-1806), thence back to Bescot. This is booked to run every day next week, Monday to Friday.

31601 has been engaged in another light engine move today, it worked 0Z31 Bescot to Swindon (via Barnt Green and Cheltenham) this morning. The purpose of this move is not yet clear but it's likely to be for route learning. It returned to Bescot afterwards, via the same route. Tonight, the loco then worked along the St Albans Abbey branch again, running from/to Bescot (via Rugby).

31601, after completing it's driver training duties with DB Schenker, ran light engine from Warrington Arpley to Bescot this morning. Tonight, it is making a trip to the St Albans Abbey branch, running from Bescot as 0Z31 via Water Orton (2048), Rugby (2141), Northampton (2216) and Kings Langley (2306-2339). It will then return to Bescot as 0Z33, departing St Albans Abbey station at 0155 tomorrow morning.

31190 ran light engine from Washwood Heath to York today (via Derby, Chesterfield & Church Fenton). Tomorrow (Wednesday 24th) the loco will be route learning from York to Grosmont (home of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) via Thirsk (0921), Low Gates (0931-0950), Northallerton (0952-0955), Eaglescliffe (1014), Middlesbrough (1100) and Battersby (1120-1136). Arrival at Grosmont is expected around midday. The loco should be out again on Thursday, watch this space for details.

DCR Class 31 No 31190 will be out route learning tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd) and also on Wednesday / Thursday, in preparation for forthcoming DCR traffic. The loco will leave Washwood Heath at 0830 tomorrow and will visit Derby, Barrow Hill, York, Weardale and also the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (Grosmont).

56311 worked 6Z56 13:00 Cardiff Tidal to Hoo Junction on Saturday 16th July, taking the empty scrap wagons for maintenance over the weekend. The train arrived at it's destination somewhat later than planned, due to pathing issues. On Sunday 17th, the loco ran light engine back to Washwood Heath as 0Z56.

56311 will be taking the empty scrap wagons from Cardiff Tidal to Hoo Junction tomorrow (Saturday 16th July) for routine maintenance over the weekend. Departure from Cardiff Tidal will be 13:00 and the train runs via Newport, Swindon, Reading and Kensington Olympia. Arrival at Hoo Junction should be just before 19:00 and the loco will then run light engine back to Washwood Heath. Plans regarding further moves to/from Grimsby are not yet confirmed.

Today saw DCR's first ever loaded freight working, the 6Z56 10:30 Grimsby Docks to Cardiff Tidal scrap train. Subject to yesterday's posting, the train did not recess at Derby, having been retimed prior to departure this morning. A second trial run is thought to be on the cards for next week - watch this space for further news.

56311 was in charge of 6Z56 10:00 Derby St Andrews to Grimsby Docks today, hauling a rake of empty KEA box wagons. Running via Chesterfield, Doncaster and Crowle, the sight of a class 56 working into Humberside again drew the attention of many rail enthusiasts, who braved the wet conditions to witness it's passing. The wagons will be loaded with scrap metal at Grimsby Docks and are then expected to return South on Tuesday morning. Watch this space for further details.

56311 has today been deployed for a wagon movement from Hither Green to Derby. The 56, which ran light engine from Washwood Heath to Hither Green this morning, worked back from Hither Green to Derby St Andrews with nineteen VTG Rail 'KEA' wagons this evening, running as 6Z56. Tomorrow morning, the 56 will haul the same wagons from Derby St Andrews to Immingham, where they are to be used for a trial run of scrap metal next Tuesday (12/07). Further details when known.
Meanwhile, 31601 has been engaged in driver training for DB Schenker at Warrington Arpley this week. The 31 should be making a visit to Peak Forest in the coming weeks, as part of the training runs.

56311 was in charge of 6Z56 10:00 Derby St Andrews to Grimsby Docks today, hauling a rake of empty KEA box wagons. Running via Chesterfield, Doncaster and Crowle, the sight of a class 56 working into Humberside again drew the attention of many rail enthusiasts, who braved the wet conditions to witness it's passing. The wagons will be loaded with scrap metal at Grimsby Docks and are then expected to return South on Tuesday morning. Watch this space for further details.

56311 has today been deployed for a wagon movement from Hither Green to Derby. The 56, which ran light engine from Washwood Heath to Hither Green this morning, worked back from Hither Green to Derby St Andrews with nineteen VTG Rail 'KEA' wagons this evening, running as 6Z56. Tomorrow morning, the 56 will haul the same wagons from Derby St Andrews to Immingham, where they are to be used for a trial run of scrap metal next Tuesday (12/07). Further details when known.
Meanwhile, 31601 has been engaged in driver training for DB Schenker at Warrington Arpley this week. The 31 should be making a visit to Peak Forest in the coming weeks, as part of the training runs.
